How Does Spinal Decompression Work?
Nonsurgical spinal decompression is a specific mechanically assisted traction of the spine utilizing a table designed to facilitate the procedure. Spinal decompression works in the cervical and lumbar spine by gently tractioning (separating vertebra apart from each other). This separation of the spine can create a negative pressure in the disc. As a result, bulging or herniated disks can retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine. This helps promote movement of the spinal joints, blood flow to the surrounding tissues, and nutrient-rich fluids into the discs to promote healing.
Decompression therapy may be the only treatment received for your condition, or it may be coupled with chiropractic care, massage therapy, laser treatments or other healing therapies.
